Christmas is fun

Like everyone, we have been caught up in holiday preparations lately. Sometimes the rushing around and busy-ness of this season can be overwhelming but I have to say that this year I am just caught up in the excitement I see in my kids as we get closer and closer to Christmas.

Every morning, the first thing the boys want to do is read the next little message in our advent calendar (and of course enjoy the small chocolate heart for that day!). It's funny and really cute to see how happy they are to each receive half of a small chocolate.

David is thrilled to help make decorations - the famous construction paper chain was a hit as was stringing popcorn! He's also eagerly counting down days until we get to visit with grandma and grandpa, celebrate baby Jesus and of course wait for santa too. Matthew doesn't necessarily understand all the complexities but is definitely excited by the holiday hubub and they both love to light up the tree each morning.

Watching the boys as they anticipate each small tradition and experience associated with our celebration of Christmas reminds me of the awe and excitement I felt as a small child. It's wonderful to re-live that again and I feel so lucky to get to make it special for my little guys.

We're heading off to northern BC in a few days to celebrate with my in-laws. We're looking forward to lots of special memories together and some good chances for relaxing and enjoying the increased adult to kid ratio.

I hope your holiday traditions bring you joy and that you have a very Merry Christmas!
