Who doesn't love this time-honoured Canadian passtime? Watching hockey on CBC Saturday nights is iconic. I remember laying out my hockey cards on the floor in front of me while I watched my favourite teams duel it out on the ice. I can still smell the popcorn and hear my dad's cheer at a well-played puck. I remember trying to pick up on rules and lingo so I could impress him with my hockey knowledge. I felt so grown up to share in this ritual.
The tradition lives on at our house. Now that the days are getting shorter and hockey season has started again, we have started up our Saturday family night once again. We play some board games, eat home made pizza and settle in for some popcorn and at least part of the early game with our boys. I love the sight of my kids snuggled up with their dad on the couch in their pjs and cheering loudly for whichever team is playing. I love that they know Saturdays are for pancakes, pizzza and hockey night in Canada.
