Five weeks in

It's September 1 already! August flew by the way the new-baby time warp always seems to happen. Somehow between feedings, changes, disrupted sleep and lots of visits with family, the month just slipped away.

Transitioning to a family of 5 has gone pretty smoothly so far. Of course I'm exhausted and still trying to figure out exactly how to meet everyone's needs and still find time to meet a few of my own too - but over all it has been better than anticipated.

Aaron is a sweet baby. He's five weeks old today and doing well. At his 3 week check up he weighed in at a healthy 9lbs 11oz and I'm sure has packed on quite a bit more by now. He's already out growing some of his newborn sleepers! Speaking of sleep, he's still on the newborn schedule of waking up about every 2-3 hours to feed, but he does give me a 4 hour stretch once in a while at the beginning of the night. I am looking forward to those long stretches getting longer in the coming weeks. Now that he's a bit more aware of the world, we are also trying to figure out the things that soothe him when he isn't sleeping. Similar to our oldest, Aaron seems to really enjoy his soother and can generally be kept pretty calm as long as there's one nearby. He also loves to be rocked or swung in his car seat and enjoys walking around in someone's arms so he can see all the action going on in our busy household.

Aaron's big brothers continue to be very gentle and sweet with him. They love to rock him, hold him and sing him songs (or whistle for him!) to help him feel better when he's crying. It seems they never tire of watching him and cooing over their baby brother. It definitely warms this mother's heart to see them together.

It's been a great month and we look forward to learning more about this little guy as he grows and changes.

*Today is also a special day because it is David's first day of kindergarten! How did my little boy get so big already? He had a fabulous first day and is excited to go back tomorrow. I will post more and a picture or two in the next few days. What a season of new beginnings for this family of 5!
